uefi partition restore - n8chavez - 08-29-2024

Every time I do a complete system restore, delta or not, I have problems booting into my uefi partition.  That partition is just a custom built PE, contain maintenance applications, HBS, IFW, etc.  When I boot up and select it, it begins to boot just fine but then crashes two seconds  later.  My computer then restarts. This happens every time I restore that partition with HBS, not not with Image for Windows or Reflect.  Obviously, I do these restores outside of Windows.  Maybe the issue is the PE/RE version?

What log file do you need?

Even I'm a bit confused on this.  An "UEFI" partition is a FAT32 formatted partition (by design) that needs to contain a BOOT loader.  It sounds like what you're restoring is some sort of WinPE which usually isn't FAT32 nor has what would be a standard BOOT loader.

I guess I need a bit more detail on exactly what you're doing  Huh

There's really not much more I can add.  I've attached a screenshot of my disk that I image frequently.  It's my system disk, which contains all the partitions I image (outlined in red) and the uefi partition (outlined in green).  Everything that's red gets imaged and restored.  After I do this the green partition acts as I described above.  If I were to restore everything in red in HBS, the green partition will not function.  If I then restore just the green partition with another imaging application (IFW, Macrium Reflect) it'll work fine.  So, it has the needed loader.  I'm not sure what the issue is.

I just did a complete restore and I had the exact same issue. I restored the entire image to, keeping the same partition layout, successfully. Yet when I tried to boot into the uefi partition I had the same thing happen; crash and forced shutdown after two seconds.

Regarding this problem, we believe that it should be caused by the uncorrected partition location information recorded by the BCD file in the ANHDV BOOT partition, because HBS currently only processes BCD files in the ESP partition of the current Windows operating system, and we will improve it in the future releases.
